Sathyanarayana (Sarath Babu) proposes to bring DCP Durai Singam (Suriya) from Tamil Nadu police to solve the long pending case, and also to take care of the city’s law and order. Originally, being attacked by Madhusudhana Reddy’s (Sharat Saxena) studs at a railway station at his arrival, Durai Singam bashes them out and joins the Vishakhapatnam Police Force under the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) pretending to be casual and not serious about the murder case. Then Durai Singam secretly investigates the case from all aspects. Meantime, Durai Singam is being followed by Vidhya (Shruti Haasan) who is a journalist from Andhra Pradesh, tracking Durai Singam in disguise as student appearing for IPS exams. Durai Singam states he has divorced his wifey, Kavya Mahalingam (Anushka Shetty), but secretly contacts her. Later, after suspicion of Subba Rao (Robo Shankar), it is disclosed that Durai Singam’s divorce is a ploy to protect Kavya from attacks from any suspects of the murder case. Durai Singam ended finding out that Madhusudhana Reddy is behind the murder in a series of investigations and determines to wipe out all the goons in Vishakhapatnam along with arresting police officers involved in the murder of Ramakrishna.

After tracking a suspect he comes across; a school teacher, Durai Singam comes to know of an illegal dumping of biological waste and electronic waste from Australia by Vittal Prasad (Thakur Anoop Singh) an Australian-Indian wealthy businessman, who is thought to contribute 7% of India’s economy. Vittal is the son of Central Minister Ram Prasad (Suman) who works as a mastermind behind waste dumping from Australia in Vishakhapatnam by help of Madhusudhana Reddy and his staff member/assistant Rajeev Krishna (Kamalesh). When Ramakrishna attempted to expose this truth to the media, he was aggressively killed by Madhusudhana Reddy and his subordinates. This was witnessed by ACP Krishnaraj’s driver Mallaya (Jeeva Ravi) and the school teacher (Joe Malloori) who lost his granddaughter in toxic smoke caused by searing wastes from Australia in a nearby dump yard. He and Kavya escape from Vittal and come back to India. Then abruptly, three people give up in the court pleading guilty that they killed Ramakrishna due to sexual misconduct. This angers Ramakrishna’s family and the media.

Durai Singam is fired from the CBI and leaves the CBI office in Vishakhapatnam, where he is met by the Home Minister of AP K.Satyanarayana. He tells the Home Minister that he is getting himself from Tamil Nadu Police and requests to be inducted into AP Police, to which the Home Minister agrees. He is then appointed as the Deputy Commissioner of Police of Vishakhapatnam City. He then investigates Vittal more earnestly, makes him come to Vishakhapatnam, and kills Madhusudhana Reddy, clearing Ramakrishna’s name. He eventually gets an arrest warrant on Vittal. Vittal attempts to escapes to a neighbouring state in India, Telangana, with Ram’s help and gets into a plane strapped to Malaysia, however his Australian passport has been suspended. But still, Durai Singam arrests him, by blocking the plane in a runway using a car. Vittal is locked up in chains in a police van trussed to Andhra Pradesh, when Vittal tells Durai Singam that he’ll escape the clutches of the law within two hours legally, and he will demolish Durai Singam’s hometown, Nallur [ disambiguation needed ] within the next thirty-six hours, sitting back from Australia. Durai Singam explains that, according to his plan, the police van will have a unexpected brake failiure and will capsize into the 40-foot deep sea on the way, killing Vittal. Vittal violates his chains and escapes into the Talakona forest, which is movie taped by Durai Singam. He then fights with Vittal and ultimately kills him. Following the commercial success of Singam Two, Hari was keen to collaborate with Suriya for another act film with a fresh script away from the Singam franchise, and agreed terms in principle with the actor in October 2014. [7] [8] Hari exposed that as a result of pressure from those around him, he later developed the one-line story from the film into a script for a third part of Singam. While the very first film was primarily shot within Tamil Nadu and the 2nd featured a few scenes in South Africa, Hari stated that the third part would be more “international” and would be set in three countries as the protagonist tackles a global issue. While most of the cast was retained from the earlier films, Shruti Haasan was added to the team in July two thousand fifteen to portray another leading female role, while Anirudh Ravichander was signed as the music composer substituting Devi Sri Prasad. [11] [12] Anirudh later opted out of the project citing scheduling issues and Harris Jayaraj was brought in to compose the film’s music. [13] Vivek, who portrayed the police officer Erimalai in the very first two films, declined to reprise his role in this film as he felt he “did not have a meaty role in it”. [14] Fresh actors to the series including Radhika, Soori, Robo Shankar, Krish and Nithin Sathya were added to the cast, while Thakur Anoop Singh was signed on to portray the lead antagonist. [15] [16] [17] In prep for his role, Suriya bulked up his physique by spending more hours in the gym and by adopting a stringent oil-free diet. [Legitimate]

The embark of the film’s shoot, originally scheduled for December 2015, was delayed as a result of the two thousand fifteen South Indian floods. [Nineteen] Production began in Visakhapatnam during January two thousand fifteen with scenes featuring Shruti Haasan as a journalist being shot. Following a series of act sequences shot in the city, the team moved to film song sequences in Romania with Anushka joining the team. [20] [21] After a production break, the team restarted the shoot in Visakhapatnam, before moving to the Talakona Forest region and then on the AVM Studios in Chennai during mid-2016. [22] [23] [24] The team moved to Malaysia to finish filming the orgasm in October 2016, before a further song was shot in Georgia with Suriya and Shruti Haasan. [25] [26] In January 2017, the film was re-titled from S3 to Si3 (spelt சி3 in Tamil) to exploit the Tamil Nadu Government’s rule of entertainment tax exemption for films titled in Tamil. [27] [28]

The film went through several switches of release date, before being released on nine February 2017. The film was ended in mid-2016 and the team finished post-production work aiming to have a theatrical release in October to coincide either with the Ayudha Puja or Diwali season, but the release was postponed to avoid a box office clash with Suriya’s brother, Karthi’s film, Kaashmora. [29] The film was then scheduled to release on sixteen December and then even later on twenty three December to make most of the Christmas holiday season, but was delayed after the team chose to permit the public of Tamil Nadu more time to recuperate from the aftermath of Cyclone Vardah, the death of Chief Minister J. Jayalalitha and the ongoing demonetisation problems. [30] [31] Prior to the film’s revised release date of twenty six January, PETA India had remarked that Suriya was attempting to garner publicity for S3 by speaking out against the organisation at the two thousand seventeen pro-Jallikattu protests. Suriya subsequently filed a legal notice against PETA for the defamatory allegations. [32] The film was shoved back even further following riots in Chennai at the end of the protest, with the producers finalising a worldwide theatrical release date of nine February.

Box office

The film collected ₹ 201.Five million (US$Three.1 million) in domestic box office on its opening day and ₹ seven hundred seventy million (US$12 million) in five days of release. [35] On the other arm, the film only managed to collect ₹ 20.8 million (US$320,000) in United States.

Times of India stated that the delayed release ” did not seem to deter Duraisingam from roaring noisy, making swift deeds, bashing up the baddies uncompromisingly and winning applause from his colleagues as well as the audience”, while also lauding Suriya and Hari’s contribution to the film. The critic rated three out of five and wrote “Suriya, who carries the entire film on his shoulders, is in utter form — Duraisingam looks as intense, plucky and vigorous as he appeared more than six years ago”, and “director Hari’s consistency in treating cop stories convincingly and entertainingly needs to be commended as he has been proving his expertise repeatedly”. [36] The Fresh Indian Express also gave three out of five for the film and gave positive review, stating “In Si3, Suriya proves with the third film of the franchise that no one can play Durai Singam better than him”, while analysing that “Hari maintains a sense of urgency in his films from the beginning to end, but, as a commercial film director, his storytelling methods also suffer from following a set of rules, which include frequent yawn-inducing songs”, tho’ added that “he makes up for that formulaic treatment with fast-paced narration in the scenes that goes after”. [37] Behindwoods rated the film Two.75 out of five and stated that “Durai Singam strikes again! Suriya and Hari don’t disappoint you in this Singam franchise”. [38] Filmibeat rated it three out of five and stated “Singam three is sure to entertain the fans of Singam franchise. With full-form, Singam Three packs the same punch as it’s prequels”. [39] In contrast, the critic from The Hindu gave two out of five and stated that the film was “noisy, rapid, and without a single memorable moment”. [40] Likewise, Sify called the film “a cocktail of harebrained predictable plot, tedious act scenes and slapstick comedy”, while concluding it was “noisy and tiresome”. [41]

Si3 collected ₹ one hundred crore within six days [42]
