Overdrive Trailer Looks Like A Mashup Of Many Car Movies

From the maker of Taken and the writers of Dreamed and two Swift two Furious. Now that’s not something which is effortless to rally behind. The very first Taken was good while the sequels were bad. Dreamed was kind of entertaining. But two Quick two Furious was awful. But let’s not weigh down Overdrive with all the negatives which aren’t necessarily its flaws. The Scott Eastwood vehicle isn’t out yet. But the trailers and promotional clips do give us afair idea on what the movie is going to be all about.

At very first glance, it’s got chunks of Gone in sixty Seconds (the Nic Box one), sprinkled with bits of Swift and Furious and then garnished with the heist-team elements from Ocean’s Eleven. Not wooed by that theory? Read the IMdB synopsis here.

The story centers on two car thieves, brothers, who journey to the south of France for fresh opportunities and wind up in the cross hairs of the local crime boss. Andrew and Garrett Foster (Scott Eastwood and Freddie Thorp) are thieves who specialize in luxury cars, only the most expensive cars.

They’ve been hired to steal a gorgeous Bugatti one thousand nine hundred thirty seven valued million euros, so they head to the south of France for the job. But they get caught, and Jacomo Morier (Simon Abkarian), the local crime boss who wields the Bugatti, doesn’t take it lightly. In exchange for their lives the two brothers will have to steal a car from Max Klemp (Fabian Wolfrom), Morier’s arch-rival, and not any car, Morier wants them to steal Klemp’s one thousand nine hundred sixty two Ferrari two hundred fifty GTO, his most prized car.

The trailers and clips of Overdrive let us in on a lot of things. But the release date is still a major detail that has been skipped.

We aren’t placing high hopes on Overdrive. But it looks like a joy movie which doesn’t intend to be the next big summer blockbuster franchise or the next Baby Driver. What it may possibly achieve is become a serviceable mid-budget activity thriller with its share of neatly-executed and grounded car pursues.

There are also a lot of shiny, chrome-laden and classic cars to drool over in the frames. The Bugatti Type fifty seven and the Ferrari two hundred fifty GTO stand out from the rest. And there is a Shelby Cobra as well, making its presence felt in a movie populated with so many cars of both the fresh and classic kind.

Directed by Antonio Negret and written by Michael Brandt and Derek Haas, Overdrive starlets Scott Eastwood, Freddie Thorp and Ana de Armas in lead roles and was filmed mostly in France. Eastwood is straight off his well-received role as Mr. Little Nobody in this year’s blockbuster hit The Fate of the Furious.

Overdrive is banking on the actor’s new-found stardom to get some butts on the seats when the movie launches. Hopefully this could launch a puny but flourishing franchise similar in scale to that of The Transporter.

BMW was actively involved in the production as the manufacturer provided the movie squad with all the cars needed for the pursue sequences. They have dropped a tie-in promo clip on YouTube to highlight the association with Overdrive.
