Two dead, six injured in crash on I-264 in Virginia Beach
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – Two people were killed and six people were hurt in a multi-vehicle crash Friday on Interstate 264, just west of Birdneck Road in Virginia Beach.
Virginia State Police were called to the accident at Five:56 p.m. that night. According to police dispatchers, there were seven vehicles involved.
An photo from the scene displayed a large number of emergency vehicles responded.
According to state police, a two thousand four Chrysler Pacific was traveling west on I-264, when it crossed through the median and hit a two thousand one Lexus heading eastbound. The influence of that crash caused the Chrysler to spin in the air and strike a two thousand eleven Honda van, that was also traveling east on I-264, according to Sgt. Michelle Anaya.
The passenger in the Chrysler who died at the scene has been identified as 20-year-old Brittany Landers-Morgan. The driver of the Chrysler, 44-year-old Sherita Morgan was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.
The driver of the Lexus was also pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as 63-year-old Stephen Austin of Albemarle, N.C. His 64-year-old wifey was taken to Virginia Beach General Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
The driver of the Honda, Arif B. Salman, 53, was taken to Virginia Beach General Hospital for treatment of serious injuries along with his 46-year-old wifey and two children, ages nine and 7.
The Virginia State Police Chesapeake Division’s Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the scene to assist with the ongoing crash investigation.
Charges are pending at this time as the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
All lanes of I-264 were shut down at Very first Colonial Road four almost six hours. The interstate has since reopened.
