Pricy

Overview:
The Platinum is the top of the line Escalade. At 130”, its wheelbase is up 14” over the regular Escalade. Overall length is 221.4 inches. The Platinum rides on 20” chrome wheels. This massive vehicle stands 75” tall and tips the scales at 5,933 lbs. Other package details include dual screen entertainment, heated and cooled 14 way power seats, XM radio, navigation, 6-disc Bose audio system and heated and cooled cup holders. The Escalade ESV Platinum may well be the most comfortable highway cruiser on the road.

Under the Hood:
Power comes from a 6.0-liter gas V8 producing 345 horsepower. Fuel economy is listed at 13 City and 17 High way. I averaged around 14.5 in mixed driving. A 4-speed automatic is mated to an AWD system. Traction control and Stabilitrak stability system is standard. Like everything on the Escalade, the power train is silky smooth. In spite of its weight, acceleration is responsive. The engine loafs at high way speeds with plenty of muscle on hand for passing. Towing is listed at 7,500 lbs.

Ride/ Handling/Hauling:
The Escalade features independent front suspension with a solid axle in the rear. Cornering is a little ponderous but the speed-sensitive rack and pinion steering has a decent feel. Load-leveling suspension improves handling. Ditto the 20-inch wheels. Ride is cushy and obviously tuned for a smooth ride. In this regard, the Escalade does not disappoint. Bumps are well absorbed. I can’t think of a better vehicle for high way cruising.

On the Inside:
Those well-heeled owners looking for luxury will not be disappointed. 7 adults can travel in exceptional comfort. Outstanding driver seat comfort with the heated and cooled 14-way power seat. Passengers will find plenty of legroom in the middle and rear seats. Each row of rear passengers is treated to a roof mounted fold-down DVD screen. The 2nd row buckets are also heated and cooled with rear seat audio controls standard. Tri-zone climate control assures everyone is comfortable.

The driver has a good view of the road and power adjustable pedals accommodate various drivers. The outside mirrors are power-adjustable and heated. Steering wheel controls run the Bose Premium audio system with 130 available channels on XM satellite radio. Sound quality is excellent. Navigation keeps you on course. On star is included too. A power sunroof is included on the Platinum Edition. In all, I don’t believe I’ve driven a more comfortable vehicle.

Safety/Warranty:
4-wheel ABS disc brakes are standard and have a responsive feel. Sensors alert the driver to objects as you back up. Driver and front passenger airbags with side impact bags are standard. Dual level front airbags adjust airbag deployment depending on passenger weight. HID (high intensity discharge) headlights are included. The standard All-Wheel Drive insures traction and drive ability in all weather conditions.

Bottom Line:
If you have the money for this vehicle, the poor fuel economy is not likely to be an issue. If you can afford $70 large for a vehicle the price will probably not bother you either. In terms of comfort and overall drive ability it’s hard to fault the Escalade ESV Platinum. It is large, measuring in a 221.4 inches in length. You’ll want to find a large parking spot, or just have your driver find one for you.
